durgan.org garden journal started 2011. garden journal, brantford ontatrio zone 5. property 0.4 acre with large vegetable garden and fruit trees. produce is pressure canned, dehydrated, and cold room canned juice. only water was added the berries. th berries were picked in clumps and culled after. picking clean take more time and water cleaning after is probably quicker and as effective. process was clean, cull and wash, add about five liters of water.cook until soft approximately 20 minutes and blend into a slurry. batches of about 15 pounds are ideal for my setup. the slurry was then put through a food mill screen with a mesh of 2mm. there is very little gross fiber in ‘blueberries. the strained juice was then placed in batches of seven for pressure canning at 15 psi for 15 minutes for long term storage at room temperature. the pressure canner holds seven 1 liter jars so three batches were required for the 21 jars.annotated pictures depict the process. total canned to date of okra flower the okra flower is simple in its beauty. the flower lasts one day drops off and produces the pencil fruit. in appearance the flower is almost identical to the ground cherry. posted in measurement of how much rain is received. this was a drizzle off and on of about 12 hours. it is not enough, but is still overcast and drizzling. a good rain is when the wheelbarrow is about half full. it has been droughty most of july. the corn fields are suffering. the leaves are pointed and folding. my garden is still healthy since i water sparingly periodically. accumulated rain most of juice twenty eight pounds of blueberries were picked at a commercial site cost $81.25 or $2.85 per pound. the berries were larger than usual and most were ripe in a clump, hence easy to pick.the berries were culled and cleaned and a liter of water added for about 1.4 pound of berries per liter to make a drinkable juice. the berries were split into two batches, cooked until soft, hand blended into a slurry, strained through a 2mm mesh screen on a food mill, placed in liter jars and pressure canned at 15 psi for 15 minutes for long term storage at room temperate. the pressure canner has a blueberries were picked at a commercial farm and processed into five liters of pressure canned juice. berries were washed, placed in a pot with about five liters of water and propane cooked until soft about 20 minutes. the mixture was then blended into a slurry. the mixture was then strained in a 2mm mesh food mill to remove the gross fiber and seeds. the strained juice was then placed in 5, one liter jars and pressure canned at 15 psi for 15 minute for long term storage at room temperature. over a few weeks about 60, one liter jars will be canned. this batch cost $2.75 per pound for the berries. each jar is about 2 pounds of berries and one liter of water, sufficient to make the liquid drinkable. blueberry juice is perfect drink for most occasions. posted in uncategorized | tagged 20 replacement. weed whacker string replacement (maruyama) use approximately 12 feet of 0.095 string. line up arrow on case cover with string hole.this aligns the holes so the string can be pushed through. push the string through and pull until the ends are same length. to insure the strings are in an upper and lower channel do the following. rotate the mechanism one half turn cw and pull the strings tight. repeat about three times. this means the strings have wound about two turns correctly in the upper and lower channel and are not crossed. rotate the mechanism until the strings stick insufficient city water is used. delivery is via hose. when placing plants in the ground the roots are marked with four foot fiber rods. to water say potatoes the hose is placed over the wand and the liquid is directed at the roots for maximum effect. the garden is watered in segments. tomato plants are watered by hand using a pail. no area watering is practiced, only direct root watering to conserve and for maximum effect. the inter space between rows is mulched to reduce the evaporation effect. watering is tedious and not done unless absolutely necessary. posted in uncategorized | were cut from the plants being careful not to cut the root to prevent bleeding when cooking.when cooked they are cooled under cold water and the skins slid of. the tops were steamed cooked separately.
